Chatterbox: Inkwell

NEW STORY THREAD!

NEW STORY THREAD!

Okay, I know there's already a bunch in Inkwell right now, but I needed something new. The other ones are not moving or are too developed for me.

Here's my character: Nathaniel

Age: 13

Appearance: Normal looking by regualr standards, with plain brown hair and a gaunt look on his face.

Nathaniel was filled with a fiery rage. Why was it always HIM they decided was nothing special? He would show them! Nathaniel walked away from the building, not believing he had been rejected. It's not like EVERYONE can turn invisible! He filled out about fifteen applications, did one thousand pushups for them, and turn invisble. He couldn't believe they wouldn't let him into superhero school. Just because he couldn't fly.

Nathaniel didn't want to feel the rejection. He was not normal. He did not fit in with normal people. The truth that the people at Shane's Academy, also known as Superpoweed School, were telling him was that he didn't fit in with them either. He didn't fit in anywhere. He felt himslef unwittingly turn invisible and stalk down the road.

Don't feel afraid to use someone else's character or add something that doesn't really have anything to do with the plot!

I want to join!

Name: Catherine (I want to try being a girl) Lancaster

Age: 13, I suppose

Power: Can enter the world of books, movies, songs, whatever. Can bring other people in, too.

Appearance: black hair in a ponytail, brown eyes, average clothing

Personality: popular and smart, but rebelious on the inside

I poke my head through the door. He's lying on his back, using a ball of fire like a Slinky. Figures. "Did you finish your homework?" I ask.

He nods. Sometimes I wonder why I put up with this guy. He's not bad per se, but he's quiet and doesn't really get out much. I used to hate him, but he has a ton of books that Shane's doesn't like (for instance, comics are not allowed if they are not of the super hero variety, but Storm has loads of them) and some ones I hadn't ever read, not to mention an iPod. At first I really didn't like his kind of music, but I've started to really grow fond of it. Plus there's the reason why I'm joined up with him in the first place. Shane's is kind of a prison and we need each other to get out.

"Do you have your iPod back?"

"No. I'll smuggle it back tonight."

I try to start another train of thought. "A new kid tried to get in."

"Mmm."

"But he couldn't get in. Just another invisibility kid. And you know what everyone wants."

Storm puts on a whiny, high pitched voice. "More talented flying kids. Like Charlotte."

"Don't be rude. She's nice."

"She's boring."

"Suit yourself," I say and begin to leave. I look back and stare at him in disgust. He's now fooling around with a long string of fire which he's turning into a ball and back into a string. "You remind me of Dustfinger."

"I liked Dustfinger."

I leave, leaving Storm the dragon boy to fend with himself.

Name: Kira

Gender: Female

Age: 14

Appearance: Long, reddish-brown hair tied back in a complicated braid, yellow eyes. Short.

Personality: Happyish, good at reading people. A bit cracked and relentlessly optimistic. Likes ketchup on absolutely everything. Very blunt when it comes to opinions - she will tell you exactly what she thinks about something.

Power: Telekinesis.

Kira dashes down the hall, a canvas bag full of textbooks trailing her loyally. "Hi, Catherine!" she calls, waving to the girl emerging from a room. "Want to help me with my homework?"

"How about no," Catherine asserts, brushing past Kira.

"What, are you busy or something?" She tries to grab Catherine's wrist, but the taller girl jerks her arm out of the way before she can.

She stalks off down the hall, muttering.

Kira frowns slightly, but continues on her way to the lunchroom. It is an enormous room, teeming with superkids in training. She finds an empty table, next to Charlotte and a guy she doesn't know. "Hi, Charlotte!"

Charlotte focuses on her macaroni. "Hi, Kira." The canvas bag floats into Kira's grasp, and she extracts a blue lunchbox. The person sitting next to her snorts. "Oh, this is Quin," she says suddenly. "I don't think you've met him."

Kira smiles. "I'm-"

"Kira Wennald. Telekinesis. Accepted on May 8th, 2006. Obscenely happy at all times, no track record other than you appear to like ketchup more than a normal person should," Quin rattles off dismissively. "No need."

"How do you-"

"Quin, why don't you just shut up for a second." Charlotte shoves an elbow into his ribs to quiet him. "He spends his free time creeping on people," she explains.

"Right." Kira cracks a smile and fills her mouth with ketchup.

Did you notice everyone in the superhero school has either black or reddish brown hair?

I'd like to just say that Nathaniel's hair is brown-brown, but I suppose he doesn't count when you're talking about Shane's Academy.

Yeah, it was only people at Shane's Academy, but now Tabby has natural pink hair too.

Nathaniel ran into the elevator, and even when he thought he was safe, ran into the apartment. It was never a bad idea to be over precautious. He did this all when he was invisible, after all.

"Hi, Dad!" said Nathaniel, panting at his father who was cooking some bread in the kitchen. "Dad, do you think it's possible for people to see other people, like me, when they're invisible?"

"Nah," Nathaniel's father pushed away the idea. "Impossible." Nathaniel pondered at this. "So how did it go at Shane's Academy?" Nathaniel gave him a look that said it all. "Not again! This is the third school this month, and our last backup! It's where your mother and I went to school!"

You don't need to rub it in, thought Nathaniel.

"Shane's Academy is the top educators of Superpowered beings! That's why we saved them for last! If you could get into any of the other schools, you could get into Shane's!" His father continued to talk, staring dismissivly at the ceiling.

"Dad," Nathaniel cut him off, "They need more people who can fly." He marched down the hallway before his father could reply, and slammed the door to his room. His dad did not need to mention it. Both Nathaniel's mother and father could fly.

Nathaniel flopped down on his bed and listen to the sounds of the city. His thoughts drifted off into no direction at all, until they hit the stranger in the streets. Who could see him. When he was invsible. Nathaniel was no dectective, but he knew that when someone could see an invisible person, there was something wrong. A mystery on your hands you could say.

Nathiel thought about this and listened to the city, and his mom coming home from work at FLASH, Finders and Listeners for Awesomely Super-powered Humans (There were no other good acronyms), and her cries of distress when Nathaniel's dad told her about the interview at Shane's. Nathaniel's parents were not bad people, they just didn't understand. His father could move objects , even really huge ones, his mother could walk through walls, and both could fly. They didn't understand what it was like to be the invisible kid who could only do one thousand pushups, not anywhere near a million, who nobody wanted.

Nathaniel smelt the bread his father was cooking in the oven, and he heard a police car go after someone in the streets. He could think about this tomorrow. Right then, he turned over on his bed, and with his clothes still on and a very emty stomach, he went to sleep.

I'm going to try a somewhat outragous character.

Name: Tabitha, goes by Tabby

Power: huh. You'll find out most of them later, but mainly she can communicate wtih animals and most specifically with members of the cat family. (It's not a Coral story without cats.)

Appearance: Pink hair (natural,) hazel eyes, freckles. Average to short height (about five feet)  and she wears a lot of jewelry. She's very fashoinable. And she acts (and thinks) like a cat.

Spammy almost says a word--hury!

The next morning Nathaniel wok up late. Both his parents had left for work, and left him a note and some cold pancake batter on the conter.

Nathaniel--

Today you can stay home from school if you want. We left the pancake batter for your breakfest. Hope you have a good day and DON'T LEAVE THE APARTMENT! We will be back around 3:30.

-Your mother and father

A day to himself. He knew he was not suppose to leave the apartment, but that's the first thing that popped into his head. He grabbed a banana, and swallowed down the first food he had had in about 18 hours. He grabbed a coat, and rushed out the door.

Shane's Academy. That's where he waas going. He didnt care that he had been rejected by them. He turned invisible for a better amount of pretection. Shane's would be the place to go to warn someone, ANYONE, about the person who could see the invisble. His parents wouldn't belive him, and who says Shane's would? Maybe they would think his was trying to get them back for rejecting him. He pushed the idea aside dissmisivly.

A crowd of kids were walking inside Shane's, chattering excitedly. For them, it was just school, and they didn't have to worry about people seeing through their powers. Nathaniel trailed behind the group and went inside.

Someone bumped into him. "You! Come on, show yourself!" Nathaniel turn visible for just nough time for a girl whom he reconised from rejecting his application. She showed obvious recongnition too. Nathaniel turn back invisible and darted down the hall.

He flung open a door at the end of the hallway, fearing of being caught.

"Tory, why are you so late to class?"

"But I'm right here!" exclaimed Tory, turning visible in his seats.

"Then who is that--"

Nathaniel ran back up the hall.

That's when the alarm sounded.

submitted by Theo W., age 12, Dark,Dreadful Places
(January 21, 2013 - 10:13 am)

The door banged behind her as she left. I wish she hadn't. I feel like talking to Calcifer. I like Calcifer, too, not just Dustfinger. I pretty much like anyone who can understand fire. There are so few, so I end up liking them, be they dragon, fire demon, or man.

Just then the alarm sounds.

I'm off my bed so fast, I don't even realize I'm growing wings until I feel the strain on the back of my shirt. I clap my shoulder-blades and the wings retract, plopping me back on the bed. I'm out the door the next second. The alarm has only gone off two seconds ago but already people are screaming and milling around. I know how to run through a crowd quickly: low to the ground and take the biggest steps possible.

Where is Catherine? This would be the best time to escape. I can't leave without her. We are allies in escape. Catherine allows me to escape for short times, and I have to make a permanent escape for both of us. Suddenly, I notice a kid- I don't know his name- who I know has pyschic power. I grab his arm. He looks frightened, but I ignore that. "Where is Catherine Lancaster?" I growl. After a pause he stammers, "I-in the girl's bathroom. Third floor." I release his arm and continue my breackneck sprint while swearing under my breath in Korean. Of all inopportune times, why does she need to go to the bathroom now?

Nathaniel wasn't going to make it out. A porticullis slid down, and the normal doors in front of the school were shut. Nathanile cursed under his breath. If only he was more like his mother! She could just pass through the wall, easy as pie.

Still invisible, he could see a vast amount of kids, crowding around the door, curiously. In an alarm they were either suppose to a) exit the building or b) run around screaming. They had been sure this wasn't the run around scream alarm, but what did they know?

"Make through, coming through, excuse me," said an official looking woman with blue hair. She stood in front of Nathaniel. "Come on. You aren't doing a very good job of hiding yourself. We know you're here." A few kids drifted away from the group, realising this was probably some invisble kid's prank.

Nathaniel really had no choice. "Fine," he muttered, turning visible. A gasp from the crowd. Only a few recongnised him as the invisible kid the school had recently rejected.

The woman with blue hair raised an eyebrow. "I'm Dr. Moddington, and as I'm sure we'd all like to know young man," she smiled before she dropped the bomb. "why have you broken into Shane's Academy."

"To warn you!" protestd Natahaniel. "I knew my parents wouldn't listen, but maybe you won't either! How wrong I was!"

"Boy, come with me to my office!" snapped Dr. Moddington. "You too, Ginger!" Nathaniel saw the girl who had rejected his application move through the crowd.

They walked in silence. Any student in the corridors would see Dr. Moddington's burnt face of determination and anger, and would press themselves against the wall. After twists and turns so extravigate Nathaniel knew he would not be able to make his way back, they came upon a door labled "Dr. Moddington."

"Ginger, I'd like to know what's going on here," she said, not even taking notice to Nathaniel.

"I don't really know," Ginger squeaked. "That guy, Nathaniel, can turn invisible. He recently apply to the school, and I interviewed him. There was no need for anthor invisible kid, so he was rejected.'

"Hmm," Dr. Moddington considered. "You can go, Ginger." A look of realif spread of Ginger's face as she practicly flew out of the room (even though, Nathaniel noted, she could not fly). "Nathaniel, huh. You seemed pretty worked up about getting us back."

"i'm not trying to get back at you!" Nathaniel practicly screamed at Dr. Mods. "i'm trying to warn you! There was a guy on the streets--"

"Big whoop."

"--WHO KNEW WHO I WAS AND WHAT MY POWERS WERE! AND HE COULD SEE ME! WHEN I WAS INVISIBLE!" Nathaniel's throat hurt. "That's all," he muttered.

"You don't have any proff."

"No, but--"

"Nathaniel, I'll propose a deal to you. You can stay here, at Shane's, for a week, trying to convince people that there really is a guy who can see through your powers. We'll vote on it at the end of the week. You get the majority of the votes, I'll admit that you were right and you can stay at Shane's. If I get the majority of the votes, you lose, and you'll be banned from ever setting foot in Shane's ever again."

"It's a deal," said Nathaniel.

"Okay then. You have one week starting tomarrow to convince the kids about what you saw."

Nathaniel looked up at the clock that read 3:00. "It's a deal. Now how do I get out of this place?"

Is it too late to join?

Gender: Female

Name: Brooke Wendylin

Age: 13

Power: Animagus, she can turn into any animal (even mythological though it takes up a lot of her strength) she wants.

Appearence: Her hair changes with her mood but is always shortly cropped around her mouth, not very tall, about 4'9, electric blue eyes, normally pale.

Personality: Quiet, lets her hair hide her face, doesn't really talk to people, but when you get to know her, she's opinionated, fiery, strong, yet has a gentle side that shows itself in different ways.

Brooke was leaning against a brick wall, watching. She was dressed in a pink short sleeve, with black and brown flowers,
brown cargo pants, and sneakers. Her hair was red currently, showing her
curiosity.  Some kid, around her age, about a block, was away coming down the street from Shane's Academy.  She understood the look, the walk, the muttering to himself.  He had been rejected, like her.  He suddenly turned invisible, but that didn't bother her, she just sighed and changed her vision.  Suddenly her eyes weren't electric blue, but bright yellow with black slits, like a cats.  She could still see him. She didn't know what possesed her, but she suddenly found herself shouting;  "Hey you! Come here!" He didn't turn around. "Yes, you! Turn around, boy!" He stopped, turned around, and looked at her, though he was so far away, she doubted he could make her out.  "Come on, boy! Don't think your powers hid you from me!" She could tell, with her cross of feline and snake like vision, that he was shocked. "Nathaniel," she said. Brooke wasn't sure where that name came from, but as soon as she said it, she knew it was his name. The boy turned and ran.

Is it okay if I make Brooke that person who called his name?  Also, have you ever watched Sky High? This is sort of like that, mixed with the book The Girl Who Could Fly. I really like this! I always thought we should have a thread like this!

That's probably for the best. Sky High was really cheesy. And ridiculous. The only good part was when Danielle Panabaker's character took out a possy of evil cheerleaders with her power with plants. Oh, and when the when the one girl turned into a black and purple guinea pig. Other than that, the movie was lame. And the main character was highly unintelegent. But, have you ever read The Girl Who Could Fly? It's really good, about a bunch of kids with special abilities, (like invisibility, super smart) and are sent to an institution to "master" their abilities. Piper, the main character, is rather sweet, and I love her! Definetely read if you have not! It's described as a Little House/X-Men mix.
