NEW STORY THREAD!

Chatterbox: Inkwell

NEW STORY THREAD!

NEW STORY THREAD!

Okay, I know there's already a bunch in Inkwell right now, but I needed something new. The other ones are not moving or are too developed for me.

Here's my character: Nathaniel

Age: 13

Appearance: Normal looking by regualr standards, with plain brown hair and a gaunt look on his face.

Nathaniel was filled with a fiery rage. Why was it always HIM they decided was nothing special? He would show them! Nathaniel walked away from the building, not believing he had been rejected. It's not like EVERYONE can turn invisible! He filled out about fifteen applications, did one thousand pushups for them, and turn invisble. He couldn't believe they wouldn't let him into superhero school. Just because he couldn't fly.

Nathaniel didn't want to feel the rejection. He was not normal. He did not fit in with normal people. The truth that the people at Shane's Academy, also known as Superpoweed School, were telling him was that he didn't fit in with them either. He didn't fit in anywhere. He felt himslef unwittingly turn invisible and stalk down the road.

Don't feel afraid to use someone else's character or add something that doesn't really have anything to do with the plot!

That's fine. I've been busy too. So...

Brooke ~

I listened as Elexhiia explained why she thought her parents were trapped in the locket. To anybody else, it probably would have sounded ludacris. But after everything we'd been through, I could believe it, and I could tell Nathaniel and John did too. I stared at the ground. Now the pain Giovanni implanted wasn't the only pain I felt. My heart ached to have known my parents. To even have a picture of them. Nathaniel was talking of figuring out how to free them. I nodded, though still didn't say anything. I feared if I tried to talk, I'd start crying and blubbering like a baby. Suddenly I noticed John was staring intently at Nathaniel, and Nathaniel stared back. I knew those looks well enough. They were speaking telepathically. A few moments passed, then Nathaniel looked shocked and started stuttering aloud. John went on about he knew he should have rejected the message. I wasn't sure what was happening, but I knew it was bad. "I'm fine," Nathaniel tried to assure us. I didn't buy it. I exchanged a look with Elexhiia. Do you honestly expect us to belive you're good and everything's fine?" I asked. "You look like you've seen a ghost!"Not seen, heard one," Nathaniel whispered. If I had had the strength to be standing, that probably would have knocked me off my feet. "Giovanni just spoke in my mind," Nathaniel explained. He was pale. "Wait! So that means he's still not dead!" Elexhiia demanded wide eyed. "No, he's dead," Nathaniel assured us. "But he could still somehow send thoughts." We stared at eachother. This was growing to be too much. As was the pain building again in my body. It was all I could do to keep from crying out. I thought about the cut on my arm, the burning. I finally decided Giovanni had implanted something in my, and I wanted it gone. Hand shaking, I reached into my pocket and drew out a small pink pocket knife. I knew I couldn't do it myself, so I pressed it into Nathaniel's hand. He looked at me quizzically. "Giovanni planted something in my arm that's causing this pain, and I want it gone." I explained. Nathaniel looked confused a moment, then he looked horrified. "I want you to just cut it out," I told him. "I don't see any other way of doing it, do you?" I leaned against the wall with an air of reconciliation. "Do it!" I demanded.

Okay, so, I know. I'm terrible with leaving it at crucial moments. But... I figure if I'm not even going to be the one to cut it out, I shouldn't be the one to write it. So... Plus, we need Brooke back in the game, and the chip was starting to annoy her so. Theo?

"Do it!" Brooke barked. Nathaniel shook his head. Brooke rasied an eyebrow.

"Fine," he said, giving in. "Where is it in your arm?"

Brooke touched a small cut on her arm and winced. "Here."

Nathaniel brought the small pink knife down near the cut, and suddenly brought it back. "I can't do it," he said, averting his eyes. "I can't."

"It's not what you can do," Brooke whimpered softly. "It's what you will."

Nathaniel felt heavy, his emotions weighing down on him. He sighed. "Okay, maybe I can, and will."

Pretend you're a surgoen, he told himself in his head. Removing a chip that got implanted in Brooke's arm...

No! Don't even go there! John interrupted his thought.

Fine, thought Nathaniel, quite annoyed, but concentrating hard. He did not glance up at Brooke once, for he knew her face, probably filled with pain, would keep him from doing this. He cut into her arm, and a small trace of blood streamed out. Careful not to cut any muscles (Nathaniel was no doctor, but he knew that would be bad), he looked around for a chip of some sort.

There. A small, rectangular box, colored a strange shade of green that stood out. It was almost as though someone wanted him to be able to find it..

Nathaniel pushed this thought aside and took to slowly prying the box out Brooke's arm. Whenever she would wince, Nathaniel would involuntarily do the same. Slowly, but surely, he removed the small green box.

{which is where I have a terrible but sudden way to end the story: And the whole world exploded. Which is why you should be happy you can fly, even if you can't turn invisble." Dad smiled and turnined off the lights. "G' Night."

That never happened.}

"What is it?" Brooke asked, painfully opening an eye.

Nathaniel could not belive his eyes. "It's a.. it's a..

And there I end.

Brooke ~

Nathaniel hestitated to cut into my arm. Not that I could blame him. I probably would have felt the same way, but he needed to do it. "I can't!" Nathaniel said. "It's not what you can do, it's what you will," I said softly. The pain was becoming excruciating, like when I first started feeling it. "Okay, maybe I can and will," he said resolutely. I held my arm out, determined not to jerk it, and he made the first incision. I winced, but didn't look. He looked carefully at my arm, then cut again and pulled something out. "What is it?" I asked wincing, opening one eye. "It's a... It's a..." Nathaniel stammered. I looked at what he held in his hands. It was a small box, lime green, about an inch long. "Box," Nathaniel said. "That's all it was." "How could a box cause THAT pain?!" I demanded. I was sore, but then I was pretty mad. Then I noticed a small tip, like a pin, sticking out on either side of it. "Here," Elexhiia said. She held out two pieces of cloth. Handkerchiefs, or something like that. We tied the box up in one, and bound the other around my arm to clot the blood. I leaned back in relief. "Thank you, Nathaniel," I said, and smiled. "That was starting to get kinda annoying. Plus, I want to be able to kick tale again." He cracked a smile at that. "So, now what?" John asked after a moment. "We check up on the others in the Rescue Squad," Nathaniel said after a moment. "We need to make sure they got out all right." I then noticed that the sun was coming up. "And we need to check on Shane's. It's the best place to start," I said.

So, stopping here. I'm quite glad the chip is gone. I was thinking inside could be some sort of important computer chip that "Holds the secret to the worlds," type thing. Or maybe just a great brownie recipe. Giovanni may not have been all bad.

@ Theo; *snort giggle* Yes, that would have been a sudden, terrible, HYSTERICAL unexpected way to end it!

Cappie says cwiz. I think Cappie wants it to be a cheezwiz recipe.

I have come up with another character!

Name: The Administrator

Nickname: Admin

Age: ??

Power: the ability to moniter the world and erase things they do not deem appropriate. Actually three separate entities. Their goal in life is to protect the minds of young children. Such a noble goal.

Okay, I'm kidding. But it's a good idea, no? The Admins are kind of like superheros here, having the ultimate authority and making sure that the website is free from maurauding- um- maurauders! Thanks, Admins!

Wow—I've never been compared to a superhero before! Thanks, Red. We'll all try to live up to the high standard.

I consulted with Murtaugh in the morning. "Go back to your world. Keep an eye on the comings and goings there. Continue to gather followers. When the time is right, give us a signal and we will come." I nodded in thanks.

"We're going back to our world." I told Catherine. She nodded quickly and grabbed my arm and then jumped. I say jumped, but it is more like rising through the air, through space and time and life and pages and pages and pages and finally you pass through the stuff that makes up our world- laid bare in its essentials- and the feeling is wonderful and terrible at the same time. It lasts an eternal second and the moment it is over your very being yearns to back to the moment when you were nothing and evrything and no longer Storm or Catherine but just particles, and yet something pulls you back, stops you from losing your individuality. And then you are falling, falling, falling, and then the landing, so soft. Catherine hid her face from me during the journey, as if she was afriad of me. Why? Had she heard things she wasn't supposd to?

We set down in an alley near the HUNT headquarters and I strode off for them immediatly. "We need information," I tossed back over my shoulder. I entered through the back way. The night had passed already and dwan was beginning to break out. I wodered what had happened to the other students.

Catherine trotted along behind me, looking doubly scared. I guess her last time here hadn't been a good one. An agent suddenly dashed through the hall and stopped when he saw me. I silenced him with a look. "Any news I should know?"

"Yes, it's-"

"Not around her."

"It's urgent!"

"There's a room right there. It's in your best interests not to eavesdrop." I pointed to a nearby room. Catherine kicked me in the shin, shot me a murderous look, and stepped into the room and closed the door.

"Giovanni. He's been murdered. Stabbed."

"What?" Of all things, I wasn't expecting this. My mind was reeling. Killed? Killed? "By whom?"

"Those kids. One of them stabbed him." Stabbed. Stabbed. That was it. Stabbed!

I pushed past the agents and ran into the room Catherine was standing in. "Can you get to that ski lodge?" I yelled.

"What ski lodge?" she asked, confused and annoyed with me.

"That one where all the kids died. The funny one. We need to find that girl, you remember her, the one who kept getting stabbed."

Catherine's eyes lit up. "Oh! I have that. But why do we need her?"

"It's a long story." Catherine rooted through her bag and finally pulled her hand out, clutching a mangled paper bundle.

"Can you please just bring her back here right away?" I begged. Catherine nodded cooly and jumped into the paper. A minute later, she came back out, clutching the hand of a girl with very long hair and a teal jacket.

I grabbed the girl's arm. "How do you come back to life every day?"

"I don't know," she mumbled, "I just do it."

"Can you bring someone else back?" I hissed. She nodded, wide eyed.

I pulled her out the door, ignoring her faint protests. "Where is Giovanni?" I snapped at an agent. The agent, fear in her eyes, lead me to a room. I banged open the door.

There he lay, looking for all the world, like, well, a dead person. What else was there to say? I shoved the girl at him. "Do your job."

Catherine let out a strangled gasp. The girl placed her hands on his dead arm and mumbled something. I will never be able to tell what happened next. I don't understand it.  I don't even know how to start. All I knew was that suddenly the girl stepped away and Giovanni lay on the floor rasply breathing.

I gave Catherine a look and she took the girl back to her ski lodge. I knelt dowon next to Giovanni. "Listen. You were just dead. I have now given you life as you have done for me. We are equal now. From now on, I am no longer bound to you. If we ever meet again, we shall be enemies. I'm leaving. And I'm never coming back." I stood up and waited for Catherine to return.

Hi, so umm, I can't write much but I just wanted to say: forget the parents in a locket thing. Imagine instead I had just opened it and stare for a while looking all sad and remorseful. You know, the works. Thanks! Bye

Okay, so, Giovanni is still alive, Tovah's parents (I'm assuming) really are dead, and we're (John, Nathaniel, Brooke, and Elexhiia) on our way to Shane's? Correct me if I'm wrong.

So, to keep the thread alive. Tweak if you want to.

Brooke ~

We walked up to Shane's, each a little hesitant, none of us quite sure why. I had expected the student body population to have gone down after last night, but nothing like this. Nobody was around. The door were unlocked, so we went inside. No students walking around, going into lockers, talking, hurrying into class. No teachers waiting for students, going on boring lectures, writing things on the white boards. Nothing. The school secretary wasn't at her post. We walked into the principal office and stopped. The room was in shambles. The chairs overturned, drawers ripped out, papers everywhere, the files sticking out of the filing cabinets. We walked slowly inside. "What happened?" I asked, peering at the papers on the desk. "Evidently someone was looking for something," Nathaniel replied, looking through folders. "Wait then, are they still at the school?" John asked, looking toward the door. I changed into a cat, ears pricked, listening. We all did. I then shook my head, which must have looked strange on a cat. "Nothing," Nathaniel reported, returning to the folders. "But just in case, let's shut and lock the door." Elexhiia strode over, shut and bolt locked it. I changed back into human form, and returned to looking through papers. "What's this?" Nathaniel asked, staring at a place in the wall. A picture of the openting of the school hung slightly askew. I noticed what Nathaniel was indicating. A small patch of grey. We unhooked the picture, to reveal a safe. The door hung slanted on it's hinges. We pulled the door open. It was about a foot wide, and two feet high. It was also empty. "I guess they found what they were looking for," I said. Suddenly there was a pounding on the office door. We froze, not sure who it was.

Techinically, Giovanni died, but came back to life.

This is a little random, but one of my friends had been reading this story. She really likes Brooke.
